Tides

“My only solace is to jump and surrender my body to the ocean, to escape this horrible reality of the ship and this slavery we were being carried into”

Is there a correlation between the Atlantic Slave Trade Routes and hurricane paths? My next photo book looks into an African American folktale about hurricanes providing energy to our ancestors who perished at sea. “My only solace is to jump and surrender my body to the ocean, to escape this horrible reality of the ship and this slavery we were being carried into” Tides is my first photo project, and I want you to be the first to know about it.

Originally, I planned to photograph the entire book, but due to the Covid-19 situation, my intentions changed. I opted to have the book half illustrated and half shot in light of the new adjustment. The end outcome is something I’m quite happy with. I am confident that you will appreciate it as well!
