Over the weekend, I had the chance to meet an amazing photographer working in the commercial advertising space. I shared my interest with him, and he was excited to offer tips, especially since there aren’t many Black photographers in this field. What inspired me was how editorial his apartment was, with statement pieces of his work on display—literally goals.

I had an idea a while back to create spoof TV show covers with my friends, and it came back into focus after learning more about commercial advertising. I’m eager to work on bigger projects, but you have to create the work you want; agencies and clients can’t book you unless they trust your eye. I’m particularly excited to dive back into storytelling with a planned reality show spoof featuring my girls. I want to incorporate storytelling and portraits to truly sell the shoot. I’m looking forward to pushing the envelope and building a solid portfolio
