Ludacris and his over the top music videos helped build his brand as an artist. However, it also helped him expand his brand beyond music into acting, and hosting.
Majority of his videos were big hits and they certainly were memorable. He has been able to create a huge fan base because of his entertaining music videos.
The rapper has a way with spectacle, but he also knows how to make a statement with his visuals. In the music video for “Stand Up,” Ludacris donned an absurdly large afro while having an infant’s head overlay on his own. Who could ever forget the enormous sneaker he was wearing and how it was stomping in the club while plaster and people fell from the ceiling. Without a doubt, Ludacris’ outrageous theatrics are the ideal complement to his lyrical rap abilities.
What you can learn from him
With all of the new technology available in video editing tools, creators can now do a lot more with their videos & visuals. For example, Ludacris was one of the first music artists to use CGI in his music videos. Not only did he have a lot of fun doing it, but he also created some innovative videos. Fast forward to today and you can see that this artist was ahead of his time.
If you are searching for videographers and editors that can help you share your story creatively, I recommend searching hashtags like #CGIArtist or posting an open call on your platforms. You never know who knows someone in your network than can potentially help you. I recently did an open call on my social media for an assignment, and I was connected with a really dope CGI artist.
