Is there a correlation between the Atlantic Slave Trade Routes and hurricane paths? My next photo book looks into an African American folktale about hurricanes providing energy to our ancestors who perished at sea.
Tides is my first photo project, and I want you to be the first to know about it. Originally, I planned to photograph the entire book, but due to the Covid-19 situation, my intentions changed. I opted to have the book half illustrated and half shot in light of the new adjustment. The end outcome is something I’m quite happy with. I am confident that you will appreciate it as well!
Tides is a fictional work I wrote based on the idea that hurricanes are the spirits of relatives who were involved in the transatlantic slave trade. In this tale, a small boy experiences frequent headaches throughout hurricane season and doesn’t appear to be aware of the cause.
He walks to the seashore one day while suffering from a headache and encounters two spirits who have come a long way.
